our MISSION

Multiplying disciples who make Jesus known in everyday life.

We want to know Jesus, not just know about him.

We want to have an interactive and personal relationship with God — to continually grow and walk in the Spirit. This involves growing as a people of prayer and hearing from God as we read the Bible, so that he can transform our hearts and lives.

We want to make Jesus known.

God is a “sent and sending God” and as we enter into relationship with the triune God, we become a sent and sending people. Jesus was sent, the Spirit is sent, and we are sent.
Our region has 3 million people within in a 2-hour radius. If a community of disciples has a network of 300 people, then our region would need 10,000 gospel communities shining bright in diverse ways to see the light beauty, and good news of Jesus actually saturate this region.

God's plan =  Jesus saturation

God’s plan has always been “to unite all things in [Jesus], things in heaven and things on earth." The vision is for ALL things to be brought to Jesus who will “fill all in all.” EPH 1:10,23

Jesus’ vision is cosmic! It’s Gospel Saturation. He wants to fill all in all, saturating our region with light, beauty, and good news. This is for all people, everywhere.

Jesus commissioned his followers as missionaries: "Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” —Matthew 28:18-20, NLT

Disciples make disciples.

Disciples go, they baptize, they teach to obey.

God’s plan is multiplication: ordinary disciples making Jesus known and making disciples in everyday life, everywhere. This isn’t occurring. 80% of churches are declining or plateauing.

Jesus equipped and commissioned his disciples to multiply disciples: to all people, everywhere. In North America we are not seeing multiplication movements of disciples. Have we become satisfied with far less than God’s purpose and plan?

We don’t just dream about growing churches, we dream about multiplication, gospel saturation, disciples multiplying disciples.

Relevant church gatherings aren’t going to reach everyone in our region. Fewer people are interested in attending. Even if everyone was going to come, the buildings and budgets and
skills needed to engage that many people would be massive.

Everyone isn’t going to go to church. We want to equip the church to go to everyone.

The goal isn’t simply to be a growing church with more attendees, it’s more reproducing disciples leading to multiplication through the empowerment of the Spirit.

Great Sunday Gatherings aren’t the destination but the launching pad of our ministry: to equip all types of people to love and serve all types of people.

We want the primary vehicle of the church to be communities on mission, led by ordinary people, shining bright together in their specific contexts.

IDENTITY: WHO WE ARE

CityLights Church is a Jesus-centred family of sent servants. Our identity does not begin with what we do — our identity as his people, the church, begins with God’s character.

VEHICLES: HOW WE GET THERE

Vehicles are the organized ways we join together and move in the same direction. They are how we live out our identity and know Jesus and make him known together.
